"Outside of its obvious use as a filter, it contains a foot valve that saves a lot of priming time between garden waterings. I have two of them. One on a 3-tiered waterfall over a satellite dish and one on a pond used for watering my garden. The garden pump has 70 feet of 1" black pvc hose and the little foot valve holds the prime on it between waterings."
