good spreder,
August 31, 2008
By bestlandscaperfrom mass
"this salt spreder is well constructed except the rod from the door that lets the salt out to the metal plate there was no pin so the rod would fall out so i drilled a small hole in the rod and put a cotterpin in and now it doesnt fall it holds a lot of salt or sand it has a peice of wire mesh to brake up clumps and the pin inside the hopper i put a ziptie on eachside so it wont fall out those are the only two bugs i found on this spredder the best thing is that it comes almost complete i would recommend this spredder to anyone that puts down a good amount of salt or sand in the winter"

Super Fast Delivery But...,
February 28, 2008
By MLinFHfrom Harford County, Maryland
"I received this product 3 days after the order was entered. I was pleased with that until I saw the shipping carton. It looked as if it fell off of the truck! There were a few cosmetic scratches but, what the heck, it's a salt spreader.
The assembly manual has much to be desired; it made the assembly tedious but it got done.
Where this device comes up short is in the mesh of the pinion gear and the ring gear. It's so loose that the gears bind and when that happens, nothing turns. Not the drive wheel and not the spinner. There is an assembly addendum that instructs the assembler to place a provided washer on the shaft and between the pinion gear and the spinner shaft support. The provided washer was too small for the shaft. I used a conventional 1/4in washer (in fact, I stacked 2 of them) and the gear binding seemed to be less. A bit of grease further improved it but it has not gone away. The manual does not mention any alignment proceedure but there isn't very much that can be adjusted.
Now, shame on me for not reading the product reviews before ordering. That said, there are many good reviews for this product so somebody's found the secret to getting this to work properly.
Stainless steel fasteners and plastic components promise many years of service except for the challenge of the gear mesh."

Bad gearing,
February 16, 2008
By ProLandscaperfrom Haverhill, MA
"I bought this spreader and it took over a month and a half to arrive. When it finally arrived, the box was mangled as it a car had hit it. The gearing is awful and does not mesh up cleanly. Because of that problem, the drive wheel locks up while pushing it. It does throw the salt far, but I'm not too sure that the benefits out way the faults. I will not buy another one. I would recommend a different walk behind spreader with enclosed gears."

Product Quality,
January 21, 2008
By Stretch800from Williamsport, PA
"Ordered three of this product. Two of the three where shipped defective. Item provides good quality for the most except the drive assembly which is poor at best. It has an open drive assembly that is exposed to the elements causing corrosion. Spready is durable and easy to push. Deflector shield allows for less waste of materials being broadcast."

Good working unit hard to assembly,
January 18, 2008
By beefbuggyfrom lancaster ny
"Very timely to assembly the unit and align all the bolts and brackets. Smooth operation once assembled. the unit gets very light and the wheels don't spin to turn the propeller. An auger would be helpful to keep material flowing out the shoot. To help keep the wheels turning i fill the unit and then lay a board on top and stack a bag on top of the hopper to keep some traction."

"I have tried many salt spreaders and this is by far the best on the market. All the other units would fall apart in a few uses. This spreader has some guts."

OK,
January 14, 2008
By nate85from Alpena Mi
"We orderd this item for our snow removal business. I am not very impressed. first off it took 2 weeks to get then when we got it it weas missing parts. i still have not goten them all, it has been 8 weeks. we were able to use it and our experiance was just ok. It does hold alot of salt and spreds nice but the gears want to jamb together. The whole fit and finish of the axel and gears are quite slopy this is one problem. the other is the gears are just stamped and dont mesh well at all. I was very disapointer with the quality. I felt this product was not worth the money and would recomend it to no one."
