"I tend to graduate upwards with tools (drills, saws, planer). I had a very good shredder but, although big, it was slow and tended in my haste to clog with vines and wet vegetation. I rationalized that a larger shredder would be worth it at least in saved time. This shredder has paid for itself in saved time and in what it can process. It takes materials such as ivy (yes, English ivy), wet leaves, sticks, brush and branches with ease and most materials as fast as it can be loaded. It 's powerful 18 HP engine lugs only with large clumps of sod, but manages when I mix the sod with sticks and brush. We compost everything. I was not aware of the type of teeth when I bought it and was suspicious of the odd teeth when I bought it. 48 teeth seem to be a lot, but not only are they 48 they can be reversed when they get dull (whenever that is). They are attached in such a way that rather than chop, they flail the material at a very high speed. This has several advantages. Speed seems to be one advantage because they literally throw the material through the screen. The loose flail tooth seems to remain sharp, probably because they do not impact the material. Even better, an occasional rock seems to have no effect on either the integrity of the tooth or the edge. That seems to be the effect of the tooth bouncing away from the rock and throwing it out the larger discharge area. I haven't tried a large rock, but know the effect of rocks and large hardwood chunks on a fixed tooth shredder. The flail teeth also tend to make strips rather than small pieces. I find that the machine will take the shoveled reduced volume for a second shred as fast as I can shovel it. That makes fine compostable material. This machine makes grinding the finished compost again.(for my lawn) feasible because it takes the compost as fast as I shovel it and handles the occasional rock. When done it looks like black topsoil. We have a real problem with Ivy in our yard and the whole neighborhood. I have found that ivy grinds to a smaller than critical resprout mass and makes good hot compost. The chipper does take large limbs and, once started, self feeds (unless the limbs are crooked or have side branches). . Mine has not not needed sharpening yet with 2 years of mostly yard use. [Friends have asked me to grind up fallen trees a couple of times --- I clean up the tree, leave them the chips and for my trouble take the firewood.] It is handy that it is road towable."

"easy to start, use, and move around. chips great - small chips. really handles large sizes (4 1/2"). drops chips down behind it - does NOT blow them like larger chippers do (was unexpected). motor really good. definately recommend this chipper."
