Chain Sharpener pays for itself,
August 18, 2008
By SargeJrfrom Cape Cod
"I bought this grinder to use for my personal saws but after helping a few friends the word spread and I have been able to pay myself back plus. I have used it for about 4 1/2 years. It still runs as quite and smooth as the day I unpacked it. It does require daily clean up and a good cleaning (for me about every 6 months) to remove the grinding particals that tend to build up around the base and face plate. If you use chain saws and want to save some $$ and always have chains that have been sharpened correctly, I recommend this grinder. It has worked out great for me."

"Easy to set up and use,I think that if I could under stand the instructions, anyone can. Only problem I am having, is some of the different settings for different chains. Best part, I don;t have to drive six miles ever time I need a chain sharpened."

Shawsharpener works great,
August 11, 2008
By weekender1from Alabama
"I found the setup and first time use to be easy enough to get a good cut on the first try. Have saved many hours and lots of frustration by getting a professional like job on the first try. No more circular cuts. I would recommend this to my friends and neighbors, they should buy their own and let mine alone, they like the rusults as much as I do."

MODEL 511A,
April 14, 2008
By CHOPINDOGfrom CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS
"I FOUND THIS UNIT RELATIVELY EASY TO SET UP; MOUNT TO A BENCH ,CHOOSE THE CORRECT WHEEL AND PITCH SETTINGS AND START SHARPENING! THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE GOOD WITH A CHART WITH THE CORRECT SETTINGS FOR MANY DIFFERENT SIZE CHAINS. I NOW ROTATE SIX CHAINS AND ALMOST NEVER USE A HAND FILE AND NOW MY FRIENDS BRING THEIR CHAINS OVER AND USE THE MACHINE AS WELL. I BELIEVE IT TO BE A GOOD PURCHASE ESPECIALLY IF YOU DO A LOT OF CUTTING OR CUT WOOD THATS BEEN SKIDDED THROUGH MUD ETC."

"This sharpener is for the professional. It can be learned by the novice, but it will take a little time, practice, and patience. Other than that, it does it all and does it at the professional level."

Oregon Bench Mount Chain Sharpener,
October 15, 2007
By Marine1from New Bern, NC
"The Machine is great and sharpens the blades without any problems the only drawback is, if you do not have an Oregon chain it gets kinda tedious having to search the internet trying to find the pitch of the chain that you are sharping. I would like to see Oregon put a cross reference chart in with the box for the Machine so that it would be user friendly for every chain that needs to be sharpened."

Saves time in sharpening and in wood cutting too!,

"I bought this sharpener because I wasn't getting nearly good enough results for all of the time I was investing in hand sharpening with a file guide. In spite of taking reasonable care (counting strokes etc) with a file, after a few sharpenings, i'd find that my cuts weren't as straight nor as fast as with a new chain. At that point I'd take the chains to a saw shop and have them "straightned out". I would leave a lot of chain life on the sharpening bench because he always had to take the longest tooth with the least angle down to the size of the smallest tooth with the greatest angle. I was paying twice for my wasteful ways. Once for poor cutting performance due to my hand sharpening and again in reduced chain life due to radical regrinding.
I find that the greater accuracy of the grind as well as the reduced time spent filing quickly returns the price of the grinder. I use it for all my chains from the 1/4 inch pitch limbing saw to the 1/2 inch pitch felling saw. Pitch changes, angle changes, and wheel changes are quick, easy, and highly repeatable.."

Oregon Bench Mount Chain Sharpener,
March 8, 2007
By darekowfrom Shawano WI
"I expect to save atleast the amount I paid for the Oregon Chain Sharpener in the first year of use. Since cutting wood in the winter tends to be extremely hard on saw chains and the amount of wood that I'm cutting at this time. I am very happy with the Oregon Chain Sharpener and the results I get with it. My brother-in-law would not take any of his used chains in to be sharpened, he said that the resharpened chains did not last as long as a new one. He tried one of my resharpened chains and could not believe how well it preformed and how long it lasted. I now have all of his used chains to sharpen, probably around fifty or sixty chains as he would buy a new chain when the one he had got dull. I use the same chain as my brother-in-law so I don't expect that either of us will have to buy any chains for atleast 2 years and at $22 a piece that adds up in a hurry. I have only one thing that I don't like about the unit I have and that is the scale for the angle of the cutting edge doesn't seem to be right, but I'm able to adjust for it by adjusting the amount I move the grinding head. Overall I would suggest this product to anyone that is looking to save money on saw chains and resharpening cost (around here $4.50 per chain) as long as they have the time to do the sharpening. I can usually sharpen a chain complete in about 30 minutes providing the chain is not in too bad of shape."
