NorthStar Generator Wheel Kit,
April 14, 2008
By Abernathyfrom Morganton, N.C.
"Absolutely a must for generators over 200 lbs. combined genset and fuel weight. I would like to have solid rubber tires to eliminate low or flat tire problems when I need the generator moved to the location that it is going to operate. You don't always have a source of compressed air where you don't have power."

"so far the wheel kit works fine reasonable quality other than how the wheels are held on to the axle, i would rather have seen something more permenant other than plastic and tin push on clips."

Generator Wheel Kit,
October 8, 2007
By trw0136from Gastonia, NC
"This wheel kit is the ticket! It allows one person to handle the generator instead of two. My wife can move the unit without a lof of trouble and I would definitely recommend it to anyone."

It is a kit, and it does have wheels,,

"I recieved this wheel kit promptly. It was shipped along with my new (and heavy) 13,500 watt generator. Love the generator. Not impressed with the wheel kit however. particularly the tires and handle spacing. Tires are rated for 300 lbs each but I don't believe I'd bet on it. One tire/tube blew out almost immediately. I did have time to notice that the sideall was extremely bulged before it blew. The other, has some issues with the sidewall, but not as dramatic and still holding air. I called northstar and they sent another one on the way. Good customer service experience. Granted, moving 400lbs of dead weight isn't easy on small 10" tires, but... ..the handles are also spaced so far apart that it's not very comfortable to drag that thing across the barn. Much less across the yard, in the dark when the power is out. I'm not a big guy, but little guys need electricity too! :) My recommendations? a) If you only plan to roll this about occassionally, on a smooth and level surface, then this wheel kit will do the trick and if you do have a blowout, you'll get a replacement quickly. b) If you demand a little more in the way of durability and usefulness, construct a steel frame to bolt under your generator that will allow you to mount larger tires (while keeping them out of the way of your plugs). Also, plan on making a hitch so you can attach it to your mower/atv for manuevering around. This is what I did. Maybe NorthStar will start making something like this one day for thier bigger generators."

Handles,
May 2, 2007
By ratio411from Pensacola, FL
"The handles are short and don't fold. This causes the already large framed generator to grow and take up more space on you vehicle, assuming you are a pro in the construction trade... Also, the wheels mount in place with a round tension clip. This makes the wheels very hard to change. Most other generator wheels are held on by cotter pins for easy service. We have several NorthStar gens in service, and love them, but I am sorry we got the wheel kits. We have cut the short little handles off and welded on longer folding handles. Also, we are about to pull all the axles and drill them for cotter pins. We work our gens hard, so the tires are flat all the time. I ordered some solid rubber tires from Northern and fitted them to our gens. Along with the new handles and cotter pins in the axles, we have a nice setup, but the buy in cost was crazy. Live and learn."

"I received this item with my generator and was quite pleased with the ease on attacthing the item to the generator. It made the moving of this bulky item very easy. I had no difficulties placing the equipment on the generator and it is definitely a very needed item with a generator of this size."
