Excellent Filter Assembly, But Adapt to Flow Rate, May 2, 2008

"We have several of these units installed on pickup-bed fuel tanks for both gasoline and diesel. There are two stationary tank/pump units that I equipped with tandem Goldenrod fuel filter assemblies on the pump discharge piping to split the flow and reduce back pressure on the pumps.

My only complaint is in the difficulty of installing new filter elements, but that is probably my fault for not allowing quite enough height above the tank.

Although we liked the convenience of a metal spin-on fuel filter, the Goldenrod filter assemblies give excellent visibility of the water and trash level in the bottom of the filter bowl, and serves as a good reminder of when to manually drain, and when to replace the filter elements.

For high volume filtering, do not use the water-block filters, since they block both water and fuel when they have absorbed the full capacity of water into the filter element. The volume beneath the filter element in the filter bowl is adequate to trap most of the water in diesel or gasoline. Filtering fuel as it is pumped out of tanks increases the maintenance intervals on equipment and trucks that use the fuel, and which require much more expensive filters."
