I am now 37 and have built 2 more for my self All you need is 3/4 in plywood lindseed oil or Deck stain and the know how to follow directions and make the proper cuts to the wood so it will fold properly."

Folding Trailer,
November 18, 2008
By Fitzo

"Easy to assemble-just lay it out in your driveway-make sure everything is lined up before tightening all fasteners. I used 1/2 marine plywood, and am able to haul my mowers and toys-the larger wheels are more stable at speed"

Great Trailer for light hauling,
November 17, 2008
By bg5574

"Trailer went together with only a few mishaps. Pay attention to wire routing in area where trailer tongue folds up. I plan to haul Kayaks and Bikes and tow behind a Vanagon so this light weight trailer fits the bill. I also have no room to store a regular trailer and so this one folds up easily and stores in my garage. Just what I wanted."

Utility Trailer Plus,
November 17, 2008
By NMmover

"After missing some parts in the first shipment due to poor packaging, assembly was a snap. Northern stepped up by sending a second complete trailer so that I could get the parts missing in the first. Wow, customer service in the 21st Century? The trailer has performed on the highway beyond expectations and taken every load without problem. It tracks perfectly even at high speed with a load. It is a welcome addition to our home tool collection."

Big Boys Little Red Wagon,

"I bought this kit from Northern 8 years ago and am so glad I did. I bought the 12" wheel option on mine because I was going to be on the road most of the time I used it. I decided to not go with the folding option and made the bed and sides permanent. After adding about 250 lbs of treated wood on this trailer I began using it to haul heaping wet loads of leaves from the previous fall. Didn't seem to phase this trailer at all. It has always trailered well on the road, also. The tires, wheels, and paint have held up great. Granted, this trailer is not for hauling large amounts of gravel, sand, or blocks but it is still quite capable of hauling most average to heavy items."

Poor tongue design,

"The tongue is a 2"x2" U channel. If you install a third wheel jack to the tongue, the tongue twists and eventually breaks the metal plate that supports the trailer dump lock down knob."

4ft. x 8ft. Folding Trailer Kit,
August 11, 2008
By Chris99999

"It took about 6-8 hours in total for me to complete the trailer (there are A LOT of nuts and bolts). Add a couple more hours to add a floor, D-rings and a motorcycle chock. I also added vinyl hoses to protect the wiring. Good 9/16 sockets wrenches (deep and short) are a must. The instructions and diagrams are very clear. I used it to tow a 500 lb motorcycle over 1200 miles at speeds up to 70 mph. The fold-up feature allows me to move and store it into a tight place. I recommend larger casters if it is going to be moved a lot while folded up. Also I recommend a spare tire for emergencies if its going to be used for longer distances. Overall, the trailer is a good value for the price."

Love it! ...with some advice for buyers...,
August 11, 2008
By RussInBuffalo

"I have no complaints regarding the quality of the trailer. However...a couple of things worth mentioning...
Both boxes busted open during shipment...UPS and I had to hand-carry individual pieces from the street to my garage. Luckily, everything was there.
Another problem was this: I could not find - anywhere in the big boxes - the assembly manual. I called and Customer Service faxed the entire (20-some-page) manual to me. About 5 hours into the assembly process, I found the missing copy...it's packed inside the box containing the lights and wiring parts - a smaller box and a place where you wouldn't expect to find it...nor would you necessarily open the box, till the lights are needed.
One more caution: I used a sheet of 3/4" treated plywood for decking and then built a set of really nice sideboards. I then realized the sideboard plywood - bolted to 2x4 posts - extended over the decking. The result was insufficient space to lay down and haul a 4x8 sheet of building materials. So...I built a second set of sideboards - less pretty, with rails outside the posts, for that purpose.
One more comment: To fold the trailer, you have to use wrenches and remove 4 - 3/8" carriage bolts. While that provides plenty of strength when the trailer's extended, it would be nice if the design included clevis pins or some other fasteners to simplify the process.
Overall, the quality and design of the trailer are great - it's a nice accessory behind my (red) mini SUV. It's great to fold up and saves garage room for my vehicles."

Not Too Difficult to Assemble,
August 11, 2008
By MilwaukeePete

"Easy to assemble. Living in the city and having no out door space to store a trailer, it's nice to be able to fold it up. Once folded up it takes up very little space in our garage. FYI, My directions for assembley were located in the lighting kit box. I didn't look in there until I was finished with the construction of the trailer and ready to install the lights :) Thankfully Northern Tool's support faxed me a copy before I found the original."

Good Deal for the Price!,
August 11, 2008
By JpStauffer

"I bought this trailer to tow behind our 2000 Venture mini-van to hold our luggage while we went on vacation. Over all, it was a good investment! The trailer was easy to put together and arrived very quickly after the order was placed. I thought that it seems a little wobbely until I made and bolted the sides on, but after that, it stiffened up just fine.
Here are the pro's. -Very easy to put together! Instructions were quite well laid out and progression simple to follow. -Trailer was balanced very nicely, so it was easy to lift on and off the hitch and didn't make my van look like it was running uphill all the time! -Tows VERY nicely! Except for the extra weight, you wouldn't even know that the trailer was back there! I paid for the larger wheels (12") and I'm glad I did as I was able to get a consistent 22mpg between MN and VA running in drive. -There were plenty of bolts and hardware! Sometimes on these DIY projects, they shortchange you on parts but there was enough and a few extra for spares. - Suspension works nice! don't tell anyone, but we had to haul a digital piano (heavy keyboard) home from VA and so I loaded all our stuff into the trailer, made sure the tires were at maximum pressure, and then stopped at a farm scales on the way to the highway. With it hitched to the van, just the trailer weighed 1500 lbs. Oops! Well, what were we going to do? We just kept motoring for home and arrived safe and sound with no incidents, and nothing shifted or banged around to much back there.
Cons; -CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE!!! I put this together and used my thumb to check the pressure and looked for any bulging of the tires before we left home. I think the tires are of a cheaper sort because we made it about 30 miles and the one tire blew up on us from getting to hot. I replaced both tires with two Carlisle tires and have had no problems since. But to their credit, I did use a gauge to check the pressure. -Trailer is flimsy without sides on it. You must have a very uniform load and have it placed exactly over the axle if you don't want the trailer to hang down in one corner. For example. With just the decking on, I sat on the back right corner, and the front left corner came up about 6 inches from the platform wracking. -Don't plan on folding it in half. I bought it for this purpose but quickly realized that it would be a major pain in the petunia's the take it apart enough to fold it in half. Plus, when you cut the plywood deck in half, it increases the flimsiness of it. Also, the little caster wheels for is to roll on, really make it look dorky when the trailer is in use.
Over all, I am happy with the trailer and would probably buy again. Sure, I could build my own that would be sturdier and heavier, but not for this price and it probably wouldn't tow as easily so I guess it all evens out. Hope this helps you figure out if this it the right one for you!"
