"I have wanted one of these hose reels for a long time. This one has great value for the price, I guess thats why it was on back order but it was worth the wait. the quality is first rate the pvc hose is supple and doesn`t kink when in use and the rachet lock allows you to pull out just the amount of hose that you need. It sure makes useing the air compressor and your air tools easy I am very happy with this tool."

Hose retraction problems,
June 15, 2008
By mesquite59from Tucson, AZ
"After mounting so that hose reel rotates about a horizontal axis, I extended the hose fully (50'). Upon retraction, the hose stopped retracting with about 20 feet left. It was winding directly on top of itself instead of distributing itself evenly on the reel. The diameter of the wound hose ended up larger than the opening thus binding the hose. As another reviewer wrote "it may be that the hose is new and sticky". Dirtying up the hose with sand and dust from the garage floor seemed to help but I still needed to guide the hose somewhat. Perhaps time and more dirt will help but it seems like I will never be able to retract it from 90 degrees out from the side because it will always bunch up on one side of the reel. I have a 30' electical cord enclosed rewinder and have never run into this problem. It appears that the opening square for the hose is too small compared to the width of the spool hub forcing all the hose into the center of the spool.
PVC hose is nice and flexible but it does stick to itself. Hope this problem goes away with time. Maybe I'll need to change to a different material hose like someone else did but then I could have bought a higher quality unit instead.
I also didn't appreciate having to buy two 3/8" to 1/4" adapters for my hose to fit the threaded connectors that were on my existing hose.
Otherwise the spring and ratchet mechanisms seem to work fine. Very beefy mounting bracket. Unit's weight necessitates mounting on solid wood with all 4 mounting holes."

"this product functions great and is a real good deal for the price. the only issue i had was i wish they would have put the fitting for a hose attachment in the box since northern doesn't seem to carry the adapter."

Air Hose Reel,
April 17, 2008
By arenaudfrom Southern New hampshire
"Pros: Arrived within two weeks. Easy to install. Works well. Cons: Hose gets stiff below 5 deg F. Making it hard to rewind. So I replaced it with same size Flexzilla hose. I used the PVC hose as a feed line to mount the reel in the middle of the garage ceiling."

Hose Reel,
April 14, 2008
By Kray505from Cumming, Ga
"Construction is very good, Ease of use. I mounted my sideways and it works well ,although being sideways from a distance it can be hard to evenly distribute the hose back on the reel once the hose has been extended all the way, I think this is due to the newness of the hose (sticking together)"

Northern Industrial Air Hose Reel with 3/8 Hose,
January 14, 2008
By Gunnarfrom Port Orange, Florida
"The install was very easy, I hung it on my garage wall. I just wish it came with the hose fitting for the side of the reel and the short hose to connect to my compressor. That being said, the hose reel is sure a convenience! Before, I was continually fighting with the hose coils in trying to unwrap them for use and then re-wrap them on the compressor handle after use. Now the automatic roll up of the hose on the reel makes me use the air hose more frequently. The 50 ft. hose length allows me to reach anyplace in my garage and on my driveway apron. This is in fact a safety issue in that I am more frequently checking and adjusting the air pressure in the tires on our on vehicles. The only other issue I have with the reel is one of operation. I have to pull the hose out just the right amount for the ratching mechanism to catch and keep the hose extended. If you don't the hose will retract all the way. I wish the mechanism had more closely spaced locking positions as the hose is pulled off the reel. If the two issues above didn't exist I would have given this reel five stars."
