Great Product!,

"I purchased this engine to replace the 17.5 hp tecumseh that came on my 46" Murray lawnmower. Delivery was fast and engine install was easy except for the wiring which required removal and use of a diode off the Tecumseh engine wiring harness. The engine starts easy and runs quiet. I was amazed to find a quality engine at such a reasonable price. Thanks!"

17 HP Vert shaft B&S engine,
October 29, 2007

"For the money, you probably can't find a better replacement engine in the 12-18 HP class. I got this for my 60" trail mower to replace the (somewhat underpowered) original 12 HP. Plenty of power, now, and it seems to use far less fuel the the original doing much more work. The only drawback was that I had to think long and hard about how to wire up the new motor, as it came with the anti-backfire solenoid at the carb...which needs constant power during operation to allow fuel to flow. In addition, the connection to the charging system had a completely different style connector. For the charging system, you can purchase the proper style connector to replace existing ones, but I don't believe these connectors are available for the solenoid...even though a local B&S vendor swore they should have come with the engine. Parts are not available, so I had to cut off existing/new connectors and replace with standard bullet style. Not that big of a deal, as I'm very familiar with wiring requirements. Someone not as familiar would have struggled with this quite a bit. Other than that, it's a clean, quite running, very fuel efficient engine for the money."

"i needed a new engine for an old craftsman 10 horse mower. found this one, in catalog, was less expensive than a 10 horse replacemt. figured was worth a try. bolted right in place. simple easy wiring hook up. took less than an hour to install. engine has more than enough power for my uses. minimal vibration, easy install and startup. only drawback engine was bigger than original had to modify orignal cowl (cover) not a big deal thats what tin snips are for."

Back in the saddle again,

"I wasn't sure which 17HP engine to order (2 diff listed) until I read a well timed review in which they described replacing an engine on the same 1742 Scotts mower as mine. That review sold me. Thanks. Ordered on Sat and received on Thursday. Installation was easy. Had to transfer old muffler, dipstick housing assy, oil drain tube extension. Had to cut & splice two wires in order to use original electrical connector plug. Also, new engine came without tapped mounting holes in block. Used bolts, lockwashers, & nuts to mount to chassis. Ran great first time out. Purred like a kitten. Was pleasently suprised to see that this was an I/C (Industrial/Commercial) engine. Hope it lasts longer than the original (died with only 300 hrs on it). Thanks again, was a real pleasure doing business. I especially liked the money I saved which was about 00 from quotes from gong through local John Deere or Authorized Briggs & Stratton Dealer."

Cheap and Easy,

By Nomad66

"Used this engine to replace a worn out 17hp Briggs & Stratton Intek on a Scott's 1742 mower. Ordered it on Monday morning. It arrived on Friday afternoon. Engine came as pictured, completely assembled with a new alternator/voltage regulator, starter and carburator. After installation (and minor adaptation) it started right up and ran fine. It is an easy change if you have all the tools and a good back. One man job completed with hand tools inside of 3 hours. For the price of a couple of repairs, I have a new engine as well as a box of spare parts for my own repairs. Be sure to compare the old and new engines before starting the work. I had to remove the muffler from the new engine and reuse the existing exhaust system. I was also forced to move the dipstick tube/crankcase port over from the old engine since the new engine came without a take-off port. Adaptation added less than 30 minutes to the job."
