Great welder,
March 7, 2007
By mfljrfrom Texas
"This is a great little machine within it's capacity. It has excellent control at the lower settings yet is still able to weld heavier metal at the top end without breaking a sweat. Several other machines I have used in this class (price range) either work well on the top settings or on the bottom settings (the Hobart 180 suffered from this), but it is rare to find one that works well throughout the whole range. The Hobart 187 does just that though, and at a great price.
So far I have used it with .35 flux core and .35 solid core with 75/25 gas and it works better than I expected when I bought it with either. I would have no hesitations buying another if for some reason I needed to.
I can't think of anything negative to say about this machine, as long as what you need to do falls within it's abilities, you will not be dissappointed.
Mike"

Hobart Mig Welder,
April 22, 2008
By FullPullfrom Springfield, MO
"I purchased the 187 Hobart welder December of 2006. I do a lot of welding in my hobby shop. I recently ran 3 large spools of flux coated wire through the unit on my last project. The welder is very easy to use and produces great results. This is the first wire welder I have had that is gasless. I was skeptical at first but once I used it I am glad I don't have to fool with gas cylinders. The required components are with it to accept gas but I do not see the need."

Hobart 187 MIG Welder,
April 21, 2008
By DickIIIfrom Crowheart, WY
"I have used a stick welder for 30 odd years and when I purchased the 187 I was very delighted in the ease of use and the various metals which could be welded. I can now weld thin sheet metal without burning through it. I have also welded some 5/16" metal with great results. This is a great little welder for the rancher, famer or home handyman. You will not be disappointed if you purchase this welder. Enjoy the versitilly of this little hard working machine."

HH187--Heck of a welder for the price,
April 21, 2008
By MazdaRacerfrom Charlotte, NC
"I purchased my HH187 from Northern right after they came out. The welder forums were very high on them. I was building a driveway gate and TIG'ing that became too time consuming. I got a "B" size bottle of CO/Argon mix, some ER70S .030 wire, and finishing the gate was "point and shoot". I have just about ran through enough wire to empty that first bottle, have since made a metal rack and TV rack for my shop, plus hinge plates for a set of garage doors I'm building. I've welded thin (18 ga.) 1x1 mild tubing, and some 3/16" plate and large weld-on hinges. It is a heck of a machine for the money. With 7 power settings, the ability to hold a big 11# spool of wire, a nice Miller gun, I don't know why it would not suffice for 95% of the welding any one needs. (I already had an AC/DC TIG invertor for Aluminum, otherwise I would have gotten the HH210 and the spool gun and would have been "set".) I have not done sheet metal work, but I plan to when I restore my classic truck. I have a roll of .023 wire waiting for it. No problems at all with this unit-- it feeds wire well, it has lots of power for heavier stuff, and is relatively portable. I would buy it again in a minute. My 00 TIG has been collecting a lot of dust since I bought this fast and easy-to-use MIG machine. I would recommend the HH187 to anyone wanting a non-aluminum capable MIG that is powerful enough that you can do almost any heavy project, and not break the bank. You will have all the welder you will need--no wishing you had something a bit bigger. (Keep in mind it will do aluminum, via push, but if you really want to do aluminum in quantitiy, by the time you add the spool gun connector, you should have gotten the HH210.) Draw backs? Only one comes to mind-- It does require 240V power, but I had that already wired in my shop."

great little welder,
April 21, 2008
By cexeglassartistfrom UpState New York
"I used to be a fabricator for many years and a maintenance mechanic . My wife knew I wanted a welder for around the house because I am an artist and sculpterer so we went shopping and found that the Hobart 187 was just what I was looking for, not so small it couldnt produce and not so big that it was a major hassle to move around. The machine works great for what I need it to do and what My neighbors need *lol* I found that buying the 8" spools of wire and a spare tank of gas was prudent. I was also suprised at how well the gasless wire welded years ago I didnt care for the results but this little machine did great both with and with out gas. I did get mine with the cart , tank and auto darkening shield. My wife is even learning to weld its so easy. All in all its a great little machine and I have had Mine for 2 years now and nothing has gone wrong yet I highly recomend this for all levels of expertise"

Great Tool,
April 14, 2008
By Jamesinozarksfrom Lampe MO
"I broke down and bought this when the threw in the cart; it is well worth the money. So far I've put a heavy brace on the back of my lawn tractor to pull a larger trailer, then welded a bracket to that so I can pull regular lawn tools. I'm like a pig in the mud!
One thiing to note; you ought to order wire when you order the welder. The small roll won't last long. JIM S"

Very nice welder,
April 14, 2008
By papagrumpyfrom Camas, WA
"I purchased this welder to weld odds and ends in the garage. The last time I welded was in high school. This is a very nice welder. I have never used a MIG before and I was producing some very nice welds with very little practice. The welder came very well packaged(it survived the shipper). I was torn between the HH140 and the HH187. I am glad I went with the HH187. It is very well built and heavy. I would definitely purchase again."

Hobart 187 Mig welder,
April 14, 2008
By lumpydgfrom Wakeman,OH
"This unit works great!! I have novice skills as a welder and haven't welded much since high school. The thing that i liked was the ease of use and set up. I could have started welding in ten minutes. The free cart was a great add on with the added mobility and organization. Now i just need more welding jobs just so I get to play with it more. I would suggest this welder to anyone who was looking to purchase one for their shop or garage. The versatility of this unit is amazing from sheet metal up to heavy gauge steel."
