"Cuts everything that I want to cut in half the time of the other two saws that I have had. Just goes to show that quality counts, don't buy the less costly saws, that just don't last."

Simply The Best In Class!!,
August 18, 2008

"Over the past few years, I have had a chance to use quite a few of these machines. Rarely, do I ever give a tool such a glowing report. However, for the consumer and small-medium shop customer, I have not found a better unit. I could spend time talking about how it is well designed for "one handed" use and setup change. These things make it a pleasure to use. However, what makes it the only choice in its class is the amount of power/torque this saw offers in-spite of a form factor which is designed to be light, but robust. Seriously, most ever other saw I tried before I purchased this model was comparatively under-powered. Nothing is more frustrating than a saw which simply can't cut--to the point where you have to slow your cut to a crawl, rather than applying a reasonable and appropriate amount of pressure to your cut. Not only do you get a cleaner cut, and obviously a faster cut, but its also easier on the blade, assuming one does not apply an unsafe amount of pressure. For this reason alone, I would both recommend and purchase this machine again.
Note: I have heard some complain about the machine's ability to pull more current than household breakers can offer. Well, As the machine does pull at least 12 amps, yeah, than CAN happen if you are using a thin extension cord or are applying an unsafe level of pressure to your cut. I have found that this saw works fine on my #10 size 50' extension cord on household wiring--generally set at 15 amps. Of course of your garage or shop's A/C unit is on the same circuit and the compressor kicks on when you are trying to make a cut--well, I can not escape Ohm's Law anymore than the rest of you!
Bottom line; I do not think you will find a better saw for the money or in the same class. Treat the tool with the respect you would have IT treat YOU, and it will NOT let you down. Don't take my word for it, find an opportunity to try one of the others before you buy. It will not be wasted time. Wasted time is buying the inferior product first and then finding that for the same money you could have had the RIGHT tool.
Just in case you were wondering, I have NO connections with DeWalt or Northern. I am just a guy who works metal and received an email, asking me to write a review if I was so inclined. As this is the first review I have EVER written, I hope I have offered something of value.
Dan"
