What to look for in a regulator,

"I have been using air compressors for many years and presently own two. They are made by one of the top of the line tool manufacturers and I have never had problem with them. However, the regulators that this manufacturer sells for their compressors are not of the quality that I'm used to. I recently ordered two Ingersoll Rand regulators from Northern Tool to compare them to the ones I have been using (I use the 3/8th in., but they are identical to the 1/2 in.). From the moment I opened the box and felt the heft of the regulator, I knew I was in a different league. They are solidly built and seemingly indescructible. Because my regulators are mounted close to the air supply outlet, it was necessarily to take them apart in order to rotate them on the connecting pipe without hitting the tank. They were easy to disassemble and reassemble. Inside, the parts were tight fitting and well-machined. An added feature is that you can mount the unit either end up, depending upon your set up. The best feature of all is the ease of turning the cap which regulates the pressure. It doesn't stick or jam, but consistently turns with ease. The dial is easy to read and accurate. Finally, the regulators cost even less than the ones I previously used. The quality of this regulator has convinced me that my next compressor will be an Ingersoll Rand."
