"I got this 7 amp solar charge controler to use with my Northern Tools 15 watt solar panel, and together this is a great match. It keeps my battery charged up and ready to go every day. It will even do some charging on a rainy day.

"This charger works fine for a small solar panel. The price is excellent for the product supplied. Easy to wire up. No extra bells or whistles however."

Entry level Solar Power,
January 21, 2008
By Gary5658

"I bought this controller and a 15 watt solar panel to keep the batteries in my lawn tractor and motorcycle charged over the winter. The connection to the solar panel had to be soldered (you could use butt connectors), but it only took a few minutes with a soldering iron. Once connected, it worked flawlessly. Topped off my tractor battery in just one day."

Good controller,

"I have had the 15W solar panel and this 7 Amp charge controller for over a year and both work as advertised every time. The pair keep my radio station's 12v battery backup topped off and ready for use when needed. They also work well for portable operations such as Field Day and camping trips. There is not much to a solar charge controller of this size, but if you need one and have no way to make it yourself, this is a good option. The solar panel is by far the better value, but I am satisfied with both products."

"The solar charger controller works perfectly. I am using a solar panel to charge a deep cycle battery, then operate a 12 volt heater at night in my greenhouse in Tennessee, and all iof my tomatoes and herbs are happy as can be. Thanks, Sam"

Does not protect against self-discharge of battery,
January 14, 2008
By Expert
from MI
|
"With this device connect between the battery and the panel, the batter quickly discharges once the sun goes away. I was not able to test its ability to protect against over-charging as the panels could not even raise the voltage of the batter high enough to reach the threshold of about 14.3V."

Solar Charge Controller — 7 Amp,
January 14, 2008
By 002john

"I purchased this item to maintain the batteries on construction equipment that I have in storage and only use occasionally. I was especially concerned that over time the batteries would discharge and might freeze during the winter cold. I was pleased to find it was all that other review’s had promised. I would strongly urge anyone wanting to control the output of a solar collector to consider this unit."

Pecans & Water,
January 14, 2008
By Tonino

"I am using a Sunforce charge controller at remote radio telemetry site with a 5 watt PV system... this is permanent installation and part of a rural community water tank level control system... works great... 12 domestic water users depend on it to work 365 a year. This year I installed a Bird-Gard system with a 15 watt PV system on my Dads 4.5 acre pecan Orchard to help keep crows out of the orchard during the harvest season... I used a Sunforce charge controller... did a great job... we harvested our best crop ever 11,248 lbs of pecans. I like it when that happens. Thank you Northern Tool!"

7 amp Solar charge controller,
January 14, 2008
By JoeA
from eastern Pennsylvania
|
"I bought this controller to replace the controller that came with a solar kit that I bought at a discount store. The supplied controller failed in a very short time and I thought my entire solar investment was a waste of money. The 7 amp controller from Northern saved the day at a reasonable price. The unit is simple, very compact and easy to install. It has performed flawlessly for over a year protecting a 12 volt deep cycle battery which is charged by a 45 watt solar panel."
