With a few parts it does work,

"The belt is adjusted, with a tension nut on the side if the vertical assy does ot bend. I use a few L brackets , some ready rod, turn buckel to keep it stable. This keeps the belt centered to the drive and idle spool. China engeering at its min. cost effective."

"Got to line up the sanding belt properly but unit is great for the home handymen or even for the professional if grinding and sanding is an occasional need. I use it at home and find it to be great for my needs."

"For the money, one of the handiest bench tools to hacve if you do any small metal fabrication. Mine has taken a fair bit of abuse, and not missed a beat."

Tough little grinder,
January 21, 2008
By MCHorseshoeing

"I have had this grinder in the back of my shoeing rig for two plus years now. It has been exposed to all maner of weather extremes, went through a truck wreck and was thrown all over the place, it still works like a dream, better than some of my bigger grinders in my shop. I have been very pleased with it's performance. With a good grit sanding belt, it eats right through metal."

Disappointment,
January 21, 2008
By GarageDweller

"This product was a disappointment as soon as the box was opened. I received pre-stripped screws and a adjustment knob that was not willing to work for anyone. Still unable to get the sander to work for more than one job at a time before the belt locks up, won't stay in line. The cheap metal guides are more of a hindrance then useful. Little more agitating is that Northern doesn't sell replacement belts for this product even if you do get it working. I would not recommend this to you."

1/2 hp bench grinder,

"Overall very happy with this product. Guards and safety sheilds are a little flimsy but the grinder/belt sander is very useful. Wish it had more power for larger grinding projects, but for the do-it-yourselfer it is a great tool for deburring and cleanup."

"I have been using this little grinder for over a year now . The only problem i have had is with the belt adjustment device, once you have it set , it is pretty much trouble free. Belt life is very good and I use it almost every day. Very good buy for the money."

Suited for the task.,
July 13, 2007
By Tazz

"Overall the product fit into my shop and allowed me the perfect compromise to have a grinder and a sander all in one. My shop is small so the more multi-functional the tool the better. I have used it many times and it has performed well every time. The only issue I encountered was with the belt sander side of the product needed more adjustment than stated in the instructions. I was able to overcome this issue by removing the belt and starting the adjustment from the beginning. I had contacted customer service to see if anything was suggested or if a problem had occured before and there had not and if I could not resolve the issue then all I need to do was return it with the number given and I would recieve a new unit."

bench grinder,

"I purchased the 1/2 hp grinder above. The pulley for belt sander was not true to the motor shaft. The bore was wrong. I could not get it to operate. I disguarded that part of unit. I added another grinding wheel that I had in my shop. So far the grinder is ok. It has plenty of power for my needs. Not impresed with the quality."
