Briggs & Stratton Intek Horizontal Engine -- 5.5 H,

"I had to replace an ancient "Wisconsin" air-cooled engine on a woodsplitter I was rebuilding. I looked at several makes and models, and this 5.5 HP Briggs engine was perfect for my needs, AND competitively priced. I liked the fact that the oil fill and oil drain plugs are on BOTH sides of the engine, ensuring that one side will be accessible when the engine is installed in its application. The aluminum construction of this engine allows it to weigh less than half what the old, cast iron engine did. Just hope it is durable enough to handle the vibration it will endure on the splitter."

Briggs & Stratton 5.5HP 1" Shaft Engine,

"Dollar for Dollar this is a fine engine. As a replacement for an 18 year-old Tecumseh engine on a chipper, it fit and worked fine. The B & S does not have an oil fill dip stick but the tube and stick from the Tecumseh fit perfectly in the plastic plugged hole in the crank case, even the brace screw fit in a pre-drilled hole and the gas tank had a moulded in recess for the tube. Now the engine oil can be checked (a new "full" mark had to be stamped into the dip stick) and refilled easily. It started on the first pull."

"The engine does not come with an oil level stick, and is difficult to fill with oil once installed. The price and performance compensate for these short commings."

"After a long search for a motor meeting the exact specifications for a leaf blower application I found the right engine at Northern Tool. Local sources could not match the price. Delivery was quick and ontime. Instalation was a snap and it's a perfict fit. The blower is working like new and the money saved enabled me to purchase a top of the line backback blower. The fall leaves have met thier match. Thanks for the great service Northern"
