"I have had two of this model and they both worked well by keeping the birds out of boat hanger. It could have a better way to replace batteries in unit from side instead of bottom for you have to remove it from stand each time to change the batteries."

"Used the owl for about 3 months now. Works on keeping away most birds. sparrows become used to it and it doesn't work well on them. Otherwise it keeps the others away."

Electronic Garden Owl,
July 10, 2007
By DanTheMan

"We bought this item thinking it might help keep the birds from eating our much coveted small ambrosia corn crop...it's really too early to tell as our corn is just getting ripe...but several people have already told us that it won't work once the corn is ripe and ready...but we'll see...and i hope they're wrong! Sorry i couldn't be of more help. :("

Temporary till more time passes,
July 9, 2007

"I feel the range is limited on the sensors, so that a modest garden is not covered by the sensors. Am willing to give it more time, as I know an owl statue works in some places, so this animation should be better. Even if it is hooting at the waving corn, it should scare whatever is nearby at the time. Will update in a week or two."

Garden Defense Owl Doesn't Give a Hoot Anymore,
July 9, 2007
By PuttDBall

"I bought one of these to help scare off squirrels who were eating my apples before they even ripened, It seemed to work fine the first two weeks or so. After the initial batteries died, it worked for about another week, then the sound went dead. All it does now is turn it's head occasionally. The squirrels walk right past it and continue to help themselves to my small apple crop. I even moved it according to the instructions. To sum it up, I am disappointed in the short life span of this supposed "garden guard"."

It's effective!,
July 9, 2007
By CFTS

"The previous owl I had was basically just a statue (didn't move) and the birds it was to scare off used to land on it's head to mock me. This electronic owl manages to keep the birds away from my patio furniture - finally something that works! The only problem I encountered was that the manufacturer estimates the batteries to last about 2 months (assumable with all features running: movement/sound). Since I didn't want to annoy the neighbors, I have my owl set to move, but muted the sound. So naturally one would think the owl should use less energy, however, the first batteries only lasted a week. I am on the second set of batteries now to see how long they will last. This may be a more expensive undertaking than I had hoped, if I have to change the batteries constantly. Perhaps the first set of batteries were drained, so time will tell."
