hard to handle,
July 24, 2009
By Calumetkid

"I've always wanted a sander/grinder, and I saw this one at reasonable price. I found the directions for assembly difficult to follow and some of the parts were missing or didn't fit well. Example, the shield over the grinder would not hold in place. It kept falling down on the wheel. The tracking of the sander was very difficult to adjust and will need more time and effort than I had to give at the moment. Overall, I think you should spend more money and get a higher quality tool."

A bench grinder?,
March 16, 2009
By Drew11
from Washington, DC
|
"As an "old school" craftsman who grew up using grinding and sharpening methods that were invented by the ancient Greeks, I never thought I would use a bench grinder often enough justify the space it would take up in my shop. Now, after having enjoyed the use of Northern Tool's high quality grinder during the past year, let me sum it up by saying "abradum ergo sum", loosely translated as "I grind, therefore I am.""

"This grinder is as good as ones I have used that were three times the price. Reliable, efficient and , strangely enough, quieter than any other I have used. A bargain."

enough power but...,
October 25, 2008
By anthony

"It's just not possible that they test these before they get boxed up. One of my wheels was so out of balance that it bumped up against the side guard keeping it from spinning at all. Customer service was good as they shipped another right away but same story, just not as out of balance as the last grinder. At this point I will see what is available at the local hardware store and see what I can find for new wheels. I will probably not buy house brand from northern again... as would rather spend the extra money on a name brand product that's tried and trued."

Grinding wheel,
August 11, 2008
By Cory
from Colorado Springs Co
|
"This grinder is a decent grinder for the price in which one pays. But there was one problem when they sent it to me. They sent it with a wheel that was not balanced properly, so i had to go and bye a new wheel which was a hassle. But it is a decent grinder."

Good for light duty,

"This is a good bench grinder for the home hobbist, but would not acceptable for daily use. The motor turns the grinding wheels OK, but I mounted a wire brush that loaded it too much. The 8" Dewalt is also rated at 3/4 hp but seems to have much more torque with the wire brush. Overall worth the price, but opt for the Dewalt or Baldor if you want a professional quality machine."

8" Grinder,
April 21, 2008
By trouper
from Donnelly ID
|
"This is about as good of a grinder as you can get for the money. Most 8' grinders are twice the money and have no better warranty. It is not as powerful as I could use, but it has been adequate for my work. I have a small auto shop so time will tell for me. It should be fine for the average person."
