Not quite what I expected...,

"I bought this shear to use for making gussets and brackets for Custom suspensions for Jeeps and offroad trucks. In a review above the statement that this shear "Doesn't quite cut the mustard" was given, and I believe that I may have to agree. Granted it will shear anything up to 1/8" flat carbon steel without a problem, when you get to 3/16" thick carbon, A36 mild even, it takes 3 men and a small boy to get enough leverage, even with the long handle, to get a full clear cut. I would not dare attempt 1/4" with this machine. It is rated up to 1/4" but I just fear that it would harm and deflect the jaws. Again, it will cut up to 3/16" cleanly, but it takes a good bit of strength to make the cut. If you can mount it to something low and extermely stable it will cut 3/16" easier. I have it mounted to my high top welding table, and I am afraid of turning it over. When I pull on the handle I can rock the table and it is a 9'L x 3'W x 1/2" thick A50 plate on 3/8" 4x4 legs, all 8 of them... I doubt it will be getting as much use as orginally planned but it will still be quicker than the bandsaw and safer than the chop saw."
