Very Handy Saw,

"I had been looking for a band saw for metal cutting and am happy with this one from Northern Tool.
Not hard to setup but having a helper to hold things would make it a breeze.
It comes in real handy for fix-it jobs and other projects.

It comes in real handy for fix-it jobs and other projects.
For example: I have this old gas powered log splitter, the splitting wedge is too narrow so it kind of slices through the logs. I decided to add 'wings' on it's wedge to help it split the wood apart faster.
I used the band saw to cut the pieces of the wings out of some rusty 3/8" thick, 4-1/2" wide steel. It was a little slow going but the cuts were nice and straight with a good finish. In the picture it is cutting the 'wings' in the horizontal mode. I also used it to cut the gussets, in the vertical mode. Then I welded it all onto the splitter wedge with my previously purchased Northern Tool Mig Welder (Model #135). Now the splitter works much better!
I would recommend it to others looking for a handy band saw to have around the home shop."

A cut above the rest,

"The NorthernTool 4x6 horizontal metal cutting band saw is just what the doctor ordered. It cuts metal up to 4x6 inches. It is much less offensive (noisy) and a lot less messy than abrasive chop saws. Replacement blades are readily available and cheap. I sold my abrasive chop saw and will never own another one since I bought this bandsaw. Well worth the money."

"I had my doubts about getting a good bandsaw for the price this one was, and since I live in the middle of nowhere, buying a tool such as this over the internet is a risky move. The saw arrived quickly, as most everything I have purchased from Northern Tool has, and I popped it out of the crate right away to give it a try. It was missing the assembly instructions, which is the only reason I deducted a star, but the assembly was very easy to figure out and the few pieces I had to put on the saw went together without issue. Within 30 minutes of the saw arriving I was cutting 3" steel angle iron. Within a couple of hours I had cut all the steel I needed to build the frame for 4'x4' welding bench and was starting to weld. I have used this saw for several projects now, and it has worked perfectly. It cuts very straight, which surprised me for an economical saw like this, cuts quickly, and is just easy to use. The adjustable drive speeds are easy to change and I have not had any problems with heating up the steel or the blade. I would recommend this saw to anyone. Great value for the price."

"For the price and my 'level' of requirements, this is great. I'm sure its missing a lot of adjustability and options compared to the more expensive or 'professional' equipment, but hey, its under $300 and easily cuts through just about any metal I need it to....from aluminum and steel plates to DOM tubing and solid steel rods.
Gets the job done...just be sure to order upgraded blades with it."

"Use this saw a lot as I have a hobby shop and this saw has proven to be so durable. You could not find a better saw for that cost. It is so easy to work with, can be ajusted for any size of material I am working with at the time with little effort.
I would highly recommend this band saw to a friend without hesitation."

"This saw has been a valuable tool for us for a number of years now. We use it enough to have replaced blade twice. I would recomend for cutting smaller stock 1.5 inches or less. Thicker material requires a saw with a taller blade in order to get a really straight cut."

"Very slow, weak motor. Will not pull saw blade in high speed pulley. Must use low speed to cut anything. Saw band keeps running off of pulleys. Not satisfied at all...."
