Save your money,

"This skidding tong will not grip a log of any size. The points are not sharpened, 3/16 dia. points, and they are not angled properly to grab hold of anything except maybe a play clay log."

Logging with Skidding Tongs,
October 19, 2009
By Anonymous
from PA
|
"I attached logging chains (2 foot sections) to the tongs (2). I hook them to my tractors bucket. I can then haul logs 12 feet long 30 in. in dia. out of the woods and stack them till I am ready to cut and split them. They work better then I hoped and save lots of time."

Skidding tongs - not what they seem,
July 23, 2009
By Bigby
from Ravenna, OH

"I purchased a set of these about a year ago to pull logs out of the woods. The very first time I used them one of the prong tips bent slightly. I was attepting to pull a 12" x 20' log out of some underbrush, not what I would think of as extreme use at all. After that they were unable to pick up anything, the logs would just roll out of the tongs. I feel the tip angles should be steeper. I don't believe the picture in the catalog or on the web site represent the tongs well, they appear to me to be a cast product, which they are not.
I compained to Northern Tool and they have replaced them for me with no problems. So far the replacement has worked well."

Great logging tool!,

"I bought this set of logging tongs to assist me in getting logs out to a landing for firewood. I use them with my tractor and a boom I made for the 3 point hitch and it sure makes getting trees out of the woods much easier!"

Teeth Wont Grab,
July 20, 2009
By Handyrandy
|
"Bought this product to haul trees out of the woods behind my house with my tractor. Since I burn a lot of wood I thought these would be handy. I've used similar ones before and loved them. On this unit the teeth aren't on a steep enough angle and don't dig into the tree well enough. I've tried the two man operation, one to use the tractor and another to hold tongs in place. Still no luck. I've tried to hammer the tongs into the tree and still they pull right out. Besides being very large and cumbersome to use. I am contemplating sending them back to Northern."

After My Tornado,
July 20, 2009
By evguy
from Roach, Missouri
|
"After a tornado came across my property and laid down more that 50 oak trees I had a mess to clean up. The skidding tongs are so tough my tractor wouldn't even pick up some of the trees but the tongs held. In retrospect, the lighter duty tongs probably would have done the trick. They were easy to hook up and attach to the logs, then easy to disengage from the log after moving it. Try it... you'll like it!"

HD Log tongs,
June 25, 2009
By MiRedneck
from Michigan
|
"Exceptionally well built, very heavy duty. I heat with an outside wood boiler and I use many different species of wood (maple, oak, pine, cedar). Some of these trees are quite a handful but these log tongs have made short work of them. They could be sharper, but a few minutes with a file or grinder is all thats needed. Few people would actually need this size of tongs they are LARGE."

Bent on First Use,
April 21, 2009
By TNdave
from TN
|
"I purchased these to pull sections of cut trees to the road so I could fork them out with my tractor. They had a decent bite on two of the logs, however they would not bite into the 3rd (and last) log to be pulled. They work much better with 2 people, one to drive the tractor and one to set the tongs into the log. I had used them for no more than 30 minutes and they bent at the pivot point, locking up and rendering them useless. Back to the store they go!"

Works well but.........,
March 23, 2009
By Stockeel
from CT

"These tongs will do any big job you have. After clearing 3 acres of large trees, I would have to say I could have done the job just as well with the smaller tongs. I had only one tree that needed these big, heavy, tongs. That one was 36" at its' base.
Nothing wrong with these........ if you need something this big."
