"My name is Tom and own 80 acres of great hardwoods in the Allegany mountains of lower New York State with my brother-in-law Bill. It's our little getaway from the turmoil of the big city life (Rochester, NY). We hunt deer, bear, turkey etc but we also do timber conservation and consider ourselves dedicated woods custodians.
We maintain our woods culling out the bad trees so the strong and better trees thrive. We do our own logging and firewood. Up to this point we have been using old 1939 Ford model 9N with logging chains, and we all know how that works out. The chains come loose, then other times you can't get them undone. You're pulling and the chained log gets hung up on another tree, you gather debris and brush not to mention the log gets full of mud, which then ruins your chain saw chain and bar. Sometimes as you pull the log with the tractor the nose of the log gets stuck suddenly and the next thing you know your out of the seat and headed over the hood.. You go thru four pair of gloves because the chain is full of mud when you wrap or loosen chain.
Enough said: I purchased this logging skidding tong from Northern Tool and I ordered two differant sizes which I would suggest . (The differant sizes allow you to haul larger log diameters). in fact after I received them and saw the quality and mass I ordered two more each. Let me tell you something fellows these tongs are made made incredibly well. The thing that is deceiving guys is that the picture on the web page listing makes these tongs (both sizes) look way smaller than they actually are. I was amazed when they arrived and saw how large and strong they were. The larger tongs have to be 7/8-1" in diameter steel bar and the smaller ones are almost as big.
Bottom line: If you buy these you will not be returning them for a refund because they are way better than expectations and they work great.
True Benefit: The most outstanding thing about using these tongs is the fact that the majority of the log stays dirt/mud free, because it's off the ground. When you use these with your three point hitch and your draw bar and attach the tongs to the log and raise the the draw bar the you have better control, less drag and 90% clean logs.Put two or three of these on your draw bar and you are good to go..try that with chain and see how many you can pull.
Hope that I was of some help. You won't be sorry....Take care... Big Whit"
