"My model 511AX top of the line sharpener broke in the first 20 chains that I sharpened. I have not yet put in a warranty claim so we will see how this goes. More later."

Helpful but with a learning curve,
August 31, 2009

"Looks great but the sharpening instructions are minimal and it takes ruining a chain or two to get the hang of it. Practice, practice and practice on an old chain first. I have used a file and Dremal toolwith the chain saw attachement for years to keep my chains sharp. This does very a good job, but it took a lesson from my local chain saw sharpening guy to fiqure this thing out. He said to throw out the grinding wheels shipped with the unit and go buy or order a better wheel that should last a lifetime. I did and the new wheel does not to be dressed often and it does not heat up the saw tooth like the cheap wheel.
Very handy, does a good job, but even for me someone comfortable and capable with all my shop tools this machine took a little getting use to using."

"511A MAKES MY CHAINS AS SHARP AS THE DAY I PULLED EM OUT OF THE PACKAGE. NO MORE CRAMPS IN MY HAND, I LOVE IT. I DONT USE OREGON CHAINS , BUT THE SETTINGS I NEED FOR MY CHAINS ARE IN THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PACKAGE I HAD A QUESTION ABOUT THE SHARPENER SO I CALLED OREGON , THE STAFF WAS VERY HELPFULL AND POLITE."

"This sharpener is easy to use once the setup is complete and you have it dialed in. It is a pleasure to use and beats the hand file that I used for years. I have a Honda 2000 generator that I take with me while cutting wood and always have a sharp chain within minutes. It mounted easy to a small board which made it mobile."

Chain Sharpener pays for itself,
August 18, 2008
By SargeJr

"I bought this grinder to use for my personal saws but after helping a few friends the word spread and I have been able to pay myself back plus. I have used it for about 4 1/2 years. It still runs as quite and smooth as the day I unpacked it. It does require daily clean up and a good cleaning (for me about every 6 months) to remove the grinding particals that tend to build up around the base and face plate. If you use chain saws and want to save some $$ and always have chains that have been sharpened correctly, I recommend this grinder. It has worked out great for me."

"Easy to set up and use,I think that if I could under stand the instructions, anyone can. Only problem I am having, is some of the different settings for different chains. Best part, I don;t have to drive six miles ever time I need a chain sharpened."

Shawsharpener works great,

"I found the setup and first time use to be easy enough to get a good cut on the first try. Have saved many hours and lots of frustration by getting a professional like job on the first try. No more circular cuts. I would recommend this to my friends and neighbors, they should buy their own and let mine alone, they like the rusults as much as I do."

MODEL 511A,
April 14, 2008
By CHOPINDOG
from CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS
|
"I FOUND THIS UNIT RELATIVELY EASY TO SET UP; MOUNT TO A BENCH ,CHOOSE THE CORRECT WHEEL AND PITCH SETTINGS AND START SHARPENING! THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE GOOD WITH A CHART WITH THE CORRECT SETTINGS FOR MANY DIFFERENT SIZE CHAINS. I NOW ROTATE SIX CHAINS AND ALMOST NEVER USE A HAND FILE AND NOW MY FRIENDS BRING THEIR CHAINS OVER AND USE THE MACHINE AS WELL. I BELIEVE IT TO BE A GOOD PURCHASE ESPECIALLY IF YOU DO A LOT OF CUTTING OR CUT WOOD THATS BEEN SKIDDED THROUGH MUD ETC."
