Hill and Valleys,
July 20, 2009

"I live in the mountians of Virginia where if you are not going up a hill you are going down. The E Zip is just the ticket for these 58 year old legs and the assistance lets me ride to the office almost everday. While the ride is only 2 miles there are 4 climbs in the route. I work with several electrical engineers and they all have had a ride and a detailed inspection on the bike....all like it and ask where to get one....
The E zip put me back on the pedals....PS,...I use some Northern Tools solar panels and inverter to charge my bike."

Very Satisfied,

"I've been looking at this bike for about 6 months and finally decided to buy one. It was shipped within 3 days and although I don't have much experience putting a bike together assembly was pretty easy.
As described in many reviews this bike is pedal assist. This means that you do have to pedal although the effort required is minimal because the motor help you along. I live in a very hilly area of Queens NY and have used the bike for about 2 weeks. I have gone up hills that were completely impossible to climb with a regular bike. I've also used it to travel ~ 10 miles one way in complete comfort, recharging at my destination and returning. Ten miles in about 25 minutes without working up a sweat , that's good enough for me.
By the way, the lit says the battery requires conditioning to achieve full mileage and the above was done with a brand new battery.

"E-Zip Mountain Trailz Electric Bicycle, Model# EZ-MT8-BL - Review
I purchased this bicycle about six months ago and am extremely pleased with it. I live in DC and use the bike every day for commuting to work and for errands. It has fully adequate power to get me, a robust adult male, and a load of groceries up moderate hills, and has excellent range on flat pavement. A typical trip for me has some moderate hills, and I do very little pedaling, so my range on this terrain is about 7 – 9 miles on one battery. The bike has a rack for an extra battery, which I purchased from Currie Technologies, and this doubles that range. In fact, I purchased a third and wired in an extra switch for really long trips. This works, though the bike is starting to get a little heavy with three SLA batteries on board. For short trips like my two mile office commute through residential neighbourhoods, it is just ideal! Stable, easy to ride and a lot of fun for someone like me who rides for pleasure rather than trying to imitate Lance Armstrong. Even with heavy use the bike has given no mechanical trouble other than one blown tire which was my own fault for letting the pressure get low. The frame is very solid, the H-style caliper brakes adjust easily and stop it on a dime. The electric throttle is smooth and lets you power down to conserve range. Batteries charge quickly. A bike shop here in DC says it can get parts for the model but I haven’t needed any yet. The price is amazingly low as you can pay $450 for a bike of similar quality with no electrics. I rate this product very high, 7/7, and have recommended it to several friends including my own children."

Great Buy,

"Assembly very easy! Quality much higher than expected. Price is 50% below any competition that I could find. Performance is exactly that was expected. If you are looking for a Mo-Ped or a gas scooter, this is NOT a substitute! It is an electric assisted bicycle that is FUN for Cheap!! Structurally not much difference between Mountain Trailz and Trailz model except tire tread and black as opposed to chrome accents. Don't hesitate .... you won't regret it."

E-Zip Mountain Trailz Electric Bicycle,
January 14, 2008
By Legitly67
from I live in Tennessee.
"The bike is easy to put together. It does practically pull itself except here in Tennessee we do have some big hills to climb. It won't completely pull itself up them without a little help from me pedalling. But that is to be expected. Only one thing I have noticed I don't like about it is it's weight. This thing is VERY HEAVY compared to a normal Mtn. Bike!"

"Your review sounds about right. The new Poly-Nicad batteries can be charged about 600 times, and can be run down almost all the way, but the battery packs are a litte pricy. This is a great value, the best I have seen."

Good electric bike for the price,
July 30, 2007

"Assembly: I've never assembled a bicycle before, but some assembly is required for the e-zip. I managed to put it together in about 3-4 hours, and someone with experience could probably do it in 1-2 hours. Some parts of the instructions aren't terribly clear, but not too much assembly is necessary. The electric components are already installed, so it's just a matter of putting together the handlebars, front wheel and brakes, and seat.
Range: The claim is that this bike has a range of 18-24 miles, but I don't think this is accurate. My bike will go about 13 miles before the engine appears to run out of energy. The battery indicator says that there's still almost half the energy left in the battery at that point, as there should be, but it acts as though it's run out of juice.
Fortunately my bike commute is just 13 miles, so I can manage with the reduced range. A couple of times when I haven't put as much effort into pedalling, it's run out of juice on me after just about 10 miles, and it's a tough bike to pedal without the electric motor going as it's so heavy. As long as I put some decent effort into pedalling and go a little easy on the throttle, it will get me the 13 miles. You actually don't want to go much further than that anyway, because sealed lead acid battery life is significantly reduced when the battery is discharged more than 80%.
Performance: On my regular mountain/road hybrid bike, my commute takes about an hour, averaging about 13 mph. On this electric bike, the commute takes about 50 minutes averaging about 15 mph. The ride takes significantly less energy, as the throttle makes pedalling much easier. Accelerating and climbing hills (and going against a headwind) in particular are a piece of cake in comparison.
The bike has 7 gears, but I only use about 4, if that many. Most of my ride is spent in the lowest gear going at about 17 mph. If I'm climbing a hill I'll probably drop it down a gear or two until I reach the top. As I mentioned, the motor is engaged with a throttle on the right handlebar, below which is a battery level indicator (full/half/empty). The battery attaches into a slot on either side of the rack on the back of the bike (only 1 battery is provided and necessary). The bike is pretty heavy (50-60 pounds), especially with the heavy lead battery on board. The charger is included and the battery is removable, so you can take it off and bring it with you for recharging.
Battery: Recharging usually takes me 4 hours. The charger claims it takes 6-8 hours, but that's probably if the battery is fully discharged (and you don't want it to be, as that will reduce the battery lifetime, as mentioned). It costs about 0.2 cents per mile (2 cents per ten miles) to recharge the battery, so it's practically free. The battery should last 150-300 charges, and costs about $100 to replace. You also want to recharge it immediately after use to maximize the lifetime of the battery. When I get to work I bring the charger and battery inside and recharge it at my desk, and do the same at home.
The only complaints I have are that I wish the range were a little better and the bike were a bit lighter. A few of the parts are a bit on the cheap side (like the seat), but easily replaceable with better parts if you're so inclined. For $350 I really can't complain. An electric bike conversion kit on its own will cost close to $300, and a regular mountain bike on its own will cost on the order of $400, so $350 for a combination of the two is great. I didn't find any other electric bikes for under $500, so this bike is a great value as long as you don't need to go more than 13 miles at a time."
