Buyers Return Line Filter — 20 GPM Capacity
Return line filter assembly with 3/4in. NPT ports with bypass for cold start protection. Includes 10 micron filter for optimum system cleanliness. This filter is typically located in the return line to the reservoir. Recommended for use with Suction Strainer 4010 or 4011. Fits systems with 2 to 25 GPM pumps.

"I used this on a log splitter with a 13.6 GPM pump and 8 horse motor. It works great! The filter is very easy to change. My only complaint is that when you change the filter, the hydraulic tank will drain until you put the new filter on. They need to incorporate a check valve into this product to prevent this. I assume all models are like this, but I have not researched this. Make sure you have the new filter ready with plenty of rags when changing."

"I used this item for my log splitter project. It was very easy to fabricate a bracket for it to be mounted on the splitter with the bolt holes machined in the top of the filter housing. I use it on the return side of the system to ensure that the hydraulic oil is free from harmful particles that could destroy my pump and components. I would strongly reccomend the replacement filter element item # 4021. After breaking in the system, I went to my local supply store and bought a replacement filter. After running the splitter for 30 minutes, the filter split. I then bought another one and it split just like the first. So, I ordered the replacement filter from Northern Tool and it has been running perfect for 2 years now. Don't waste money on a cheap filter from your local supply store. Purchase one from here and save yourself the down time and money."

"Great filter and less expensive than filters available at other stores. I added this filter to the loader on a tractor. It was easy to install and I believe it will extend the life of the components in the hydraulic system."

"This filter setup worked perfect for a log splitter project I am working on. I installed it on the return side, making sure that it was higher than the tank so when I change the filter I won't lose all the hydraulic fluid. I followed the arrows on the casting for proper installation and fluid flow. I used this in conjunction with an 11 gpm pump and 5 gallon tank."

"This return line filter at an inexpensive price and fantastic quality incorporates an internal bypass valve for the cold starts and pressure bypass in case of filter plugging. My usage is on an antique tractor that does not incorporate a filter on the transmission / hydraulic sysytem and the results so far have been very good with filtering out undesired particles from the oil system. The ease of the replacement spin on catridge make this a very nice filter set up for my usage."

The original filter was attached very tightly. Be prepared to use a filter wrench to remove original filter.

"Great product for the price. Seems to do the job on all the systems I have put these filter assemblies on. The 1/8" gauge ports on the filter head are usefull for putting a filter condition gauge into."
