Almost Perfect,

"The Tjernlund Auto-Draft works like a charm to solve my stove draft problem. It is a bit noisier than I had expected so I generally only us it at start-up and for a few minutes when loading wood. The biggest problem came in installing the thing. The template that came with it was not very accurate. I cut the hole and drilled the 4 screw holes exactly where the template said but had to redrill all of the holes and enlarge the main hole a bit in order to fit. Overall a good product just a bit difficult to install."

Good for it's cause,

"My chimney wasn't tall enough to have the proper amount of draft, so, after doing some research, I was able to find out that this product may fit my needs. It came only days after ordering, and I was able to install rather easily. When you turn it on, there is a definite draft flowing now! My fires are burning hotter and they are very easy to light. One problem is that you have to actually seal the gaps yourself in the area of the fan, I noticed a small amount of smoking coming out, but that was a quick and easy $10 fix. So instead of spending a whole lot of money on new chimney that may or may not do the trick with the draft, this inducer was able to perform very effectively. One other downside is that it does have quite a hum to it. Not loud enough to not use it, but loud enough to notice. Good quality and good product. Northern is one of the better companies out there to deal with also."

"Our high efficiency woodstove doesn't draft easily and kept filling the house with smoke, even though it's a straight up stove pipe, 15' tall, and extends 3' above the roof. The auto draft fan was easy to install and works great. We had to fill the gaps in the seam around the edge of the fan houseing with high temp epoxy because it leaks smoke otherwise. Also had to disassemble and tighten the control housing nuts, as they worked loose in just a day or two of use and were rattling. We run the auto draft fan for the first little while when we start the stove and it helps it burn better and heat up more quickly in the beginning. Would not use our stove with out it, It's a bear to start it with out this unit."

no more smoke in the house,
November 19, 2008

"I just can't brag enough on this blower. My stove smoked terrible when lighting it or if the wind was from the east. Because of that I only used it on very cold days. I no longer have to crack the door when starting the fire as recommended by the stove company, and it starts with ease and burns to a fine ash. I now use this stove all the time. The draft blower is noisy when on high but I turn it down to low when the fire is going then it isn't much louder than the fan on the stove. It wasn't too hard to install although I think self tapping screws would be easier than drilling the holes and installing the clips that come with it. I would recommend a spring punch to start drilling if you do use the clips, otherwise it can be hard to drill on a curved surface."

smoky,
February 19, 2008

"this has several things wrong and still does the job...
1 the motor looks like it came out of a toy train set.
2 it gets HOT while running (it says it's continuous duty, jury's still out)
3. there is a larger than needed hole where the shaft goes into the fan and smoke leaks out it..
4. the mounting for the fan is not braced well and is prone to vibrate., also
this is made worse when you hook armored cable \to it..
5 finally after a few weeks of use, the blades attract creosote and gets out of
balance which begs cleaning.. this is complicated by the silicone seal you had to make when you installed the fan.. you have to make another..
however, so far it does the job!
