Excellent pruning saw, not a logging saw,
September 29, 2009

"When I was in my 20's and 30's, I would have hated this saw, as I would have wanted the battery to last longer and expected to use it as I would a large saw.
Now, in my 60's, I find it excellent for what I want to use it for, small pruning. The battery does not last very long when sawing 3" limbs, but lasts as long as I want to spend at one time now in my elder years. I am ready to rest by the time the battery needs charging anyhow. It is great not to have to start my large saw and carry around the extra weight for those small pruning jobs, and not to have to drag a cord around for my small electric chain saw. I can grab it anytime and lop off a few limbs easily when I want to do that, and not expend the energy to use a hand saw as I used to do for those small jobs.
In short, not a good saw for someone who expects it to do the job of a bigger saw, but an excellent tool for someone who already has a large chain saw and just wants to trim a few branches now and then."

Northern Industrial Pruning Chain Saw,

"I only expected of this saw what it is designed to do and am very pleased with it. There have been many complaints about the battery life, but the battery lasts longer than I do. Weight (not given in specs) is 5.8 lbs. Light enough for us older people with arthritis. The manual gives the file size to use to sharpen as 4mm. This is still America and I have the 5/32" file that is 3.97mm, close enough."

"Very handy tool. I use it when pulling out my gas chainsaw is overkill. Does a great job of cutting. I cut down small trees up to 5 inches thick. The price is okay. The battery life is terrible and for me that knocks it down to 3 stars. I would search for an alternative product before buying this again."

Great for pruning,

"This little saw is great for pruning branches that are too large for a hand pruner. I agree with the other reviewers that the batteries do not last very long at all. In addition the battery is very difficult to remove. If Northern could improve the battery life I would have given it 5 stars."

A joke,

"A joke of a tool (a bad one at that)
Underpowered.
Batteries do not last.
A total waste of money.
A hand saw is cheaper and faster.
This is NOT a substitute for even a hand saw, much less a chain saw."

Depends what you are using it for.,

"I bought this saw with hope that it would help me with pruning and getting my kindling ready for the season. If I am not mistaken, I believe that it says that it will handle up to a 4" cut or so and although it will it takes a lot out of the battery. I was cutting oak and maple sapling poles about 3" diameter and about 15' long up into 15" lenghts for large kindling stove wood. With those 2 batteries fully charged, I could only get through 2.5 of those poles before the batteries needed to be charged overnight.
I do feel that this pruner seems to have its convenience and application, this was not it. With smaller branches it works great but like any rechargeable, you always wish the batteries could do more. With that said, in my application, I found that a buck saw and pruning clippers were cheaper, faster, and did not run out of charge.
What I have found myself using this saw for other than small pruning, is to mark logs in firewood lengths that I go back and cut with my gas chain saw. I used to use a marking crayon, but these scarfs are easier to see and just as fast."

Northern Pruning Chainsaw,
March 7, 2007
By Carolyn from Shelby County, TN
"I love my Northern cordless Pruning chainsaw. Since I have become a little old lady, I am unable to start a gasoline powered chainsaw and do not need one that big. This is small, lightweight, easy to recharge and overall the best product I have bought of this type. I prune limbs, and small trees. I needed a cordless type since I live on a large farm and can take it wherever I need it without an electric cord.
My husband tells all our friends that no tree is safe with me and my chainsaw on a good day."
