"I purchased the Northstar 7200 PTO Generator for emergency power back-up for our house in the country. I mounted the Generator on another Northern product which was a 3 point Carry-All Fork Attachment. I also used a Northern drive shaft to connect the generator to a John Deere Model 4100 diesel tractor. The set up works very good and it will run all nessary house refridgerators, television, lighting and a 220 volt pump in our well so we have running water in the house when and if we loose all of our electric power. This PTO Generator and the Carry-All Fork make a very portable unit that can be quickly attached to the tractor and put into service in case of power failures."

Nice product!,

"When I moved into the great northwest and bought some acreage to build my dream/retirement house, I realized that the power up here isn't as reliable as I'm used to. Already having my own tractor I researched generators and found this unit, which has more than satisfied my needs. I am a retired electrician and truly appreciate the ease of hooking it up. I also appreciate the clean and steady power it gives me when I need it. No separate engine to maintain or fuel. And the price? you can't beat it!
If it ever wears out in my lifetime....I'd buy another one right away!"

"Love the fact I can use a good strong reliable engine in the tractor to run this. Easy to hook up. Only wish it came with a pto shaft."

NorthStar PTO Generator,
November 2, 2009

"I bought this fine generator because we live in South Louisiana and Hurricanes are part of our lives. I built a shed for this generator and connected it to my house ready for Hurricanes or other bad weather but have not used it yet. I have doors on both ends with one for the tractor to back to it and the other just to keep it cool."

"The generator is well made and works well. I made my own 3-point hitch frame so that the generator could be mounted on the tractor. I think most people would not want to this themselves and I was suprised that it was not offered as an option."

Works Great,
July 20, 2009

"Was waiting for this generator to go on sale for quite a while before I bought it. I got it just in time. Luckily shipping was fast because 2 days after getting it, storms knocked out the power. Hooked it up and ran it for about 6 hours, worked great. It is a little noisy, it has a high pitched whine to it when running, that together with the tractor engine running at high RPM makes for a noisy combination. Good thing my neighbors aren't too close.
Overall it looks like a quality piece of equipment and it works as advertised. The drive shaft was a little pricey but it is rated for 60HP, way more than is needed. It would be nice if they offered a lighter duty/lower priced alternative for the shaft."

Performed flawlessly during week-long power outage,

"I bought my 7800 PTOG generator a year ago, and am I glad I did! I had rigged a custom 3-point generator mount for the quick hitch on my small Kubota B7100 tractor (see photo). My mount has two 5 inch wheels and retractable handlebar so I can move the heavy generator around. Then I stored the generator for emergency use if needed. In December 2008, record snowfall (21 inches) downed trees all over here in Oregon and knocked out power and phone for a full week. We were snowed in with trees down across our 1/3 mile driveway. Time to see if the generator was a good investment. I mounted it to the Kubota, connected the PTO link, then parked the tractor with the generator sticking just inside the garage doorway. I ran 10AWG wire from the generator's 240VAC outlet to the house electrical panel after disconnecting the utility main breaker. I fed the panel thru a 40amp baseboard heat breaker (temporarily unwired) and was able to run the well pump and hot water heater for a couple hours a day. House lights and microwave worked OK also. We even did a load of laundry and ran the electric dryer, believe it or not! While our distant neighbors were melting snow for drinking water, we enjoyed hot showers, thanks to this great PTO generator. No problems at all. It is very noisy - with a loud gear whine, but that's a small price to pay for hot running water. I wore ear protection while refueling the tractor and turn it on and off, etc. Warning: Do not connect this to your electrical panel without an approved generator transfer switch installation -- unless you really know how to do it safely. I am an electrical engineer, and I did it safely. I separately tested the water heater and well pump first by unwiring them from the breaker panel and connecting directly to the generator. When they worked OK, I did the panel hookup for the convenience of switching loads on and off easily."

NorthStar PTO Generator — 7200 Watt,
November 6, 2008
By flyboyjeffrey

"I have been very happy with this unit, the quality is higher then I expected. The voltage stays within a couple volts, frequency stays within 58 to 62 even under large changes in load. I have run it at 80% load for 8 hours and it only got warm. I would recommend this to anyone needing this size PTO generator. I run it on a 3 point carry-all that I modified with casters that makes it easy to hook up, allows for perfect shaft alignment."

Great Product, But...,

"Just got this unit up and running with a manual transfer switch this past week and for the most part works great.
However, as Mahipua pointed out, the filler/vent plug leaks badly. Northern Tool really needs to come up with a properly working vent plug for this... Does anyone know of a good replacement?
BTW, King Kutter Carry All, Model CA, Item# 256108 with a little creative mounting with angle iron makes a great way to mount this item to your 3 point hitch."
