contractor rack, July 13, 2009
By mhc52161 from Dansville, ny

"This is a very nice rack. The quality of it is very rugged and was very easy to install. I would recommend this to everyone. This is the third rack that our construction company has purchased in the last three years and have had no problems so far. The shipping is super fast and the item is high quality."

J-hook clamps don't work, etc., October 29, 2009
By KenM09 from Waynesville, NC

"Out of the box ...
1) The paint is chipped in many places and has rusted there.
2) The instructions are poor, missing some steps. Small pictures, printed poorly help some, but not much.
3) The J-hook clamps, for temporary installation, don't tighten down onto my trucks side. ('95 Toyota T100) When tightened, the curve of the j-hook tightens onto the sleeve of the mounting feet before the pad of the j-hook even touches the truck side railing. So, the whole rack can still be moved by hand. I had to drill holes in the truck and mount the rack as a permanent installation, after buying 1/2 " bolts to do this, the bolts for permanent installation did NOT come with the rack."

Not a great fit, August 1, 2009
By radtate from MI

"My husband and I put this together but the instructions were not the greatest for do-it-yourselfers, alot of times we depended more on the pictures and common sense than the directions. Says it fits all trucks but the vertical structural bars should have been longer to get anywhere near the clearance over the cab that is shown in the pictures. We had to raise it with blocks of wood under the vertical support feet on the truck bedrail in order to get enough clearance to stop scratching the roof of our 2005 Ford F-350. If you are willing to do that and touch up the paint it is okay for the price."

Contractor Rack, March 26, 2009
By kanine from Silverton,Texas

"I bought my rack two years ago, and have been well satisfied with it. I was surprised to see the negative reviews, so I felt the need to write mine. I have received several compliments as to the appearance of the rack, and it's varied uses. I bolted mine down, but it's still not a big deal to take it off if needed. It fit perfect right out of the box, and was a snap to install with the help of a friend. Some years ago I bought a custom rack for a lot more money, and it wasn't as versatile as this one."

I agree - cheap rack, March 24, 2009
By JP2000 from Pittsburgh, PA

"As the first review (dated 03/12/2009) stated, the side rails are a problem. The clamps that hold the side rails together need to be re-engineered. The portion of one of my rails had buckled where the tube was reduced to slide into the other rail. This buckle caused the clamp to ride on top - instead of clamping onto - the rail. This effectively made the clamp useless, as it did not clamp onto the rail at all. My solution was the same as the previous solution - weld both of the rails.

Additionally, the fit of the rack is off slightly. It appears to have a torque applied to it. One corner refuses to level out regardless of the adjustments I am making. This was present before the welding as well. Overall, the rack just doesn't look good on the truck. I imagine that the only time I will keep the rack on the vehicle will be when I need to use it, otherwise I'd just as soon keep it off of the truck.

If you don't mind the additional welding and painting work that will be needed, and the possibility that this rack will just not look right, then this rack is for you."

Cheap Rack, March 12, 2009
By Marsh123 from Elverta, CA

"This rack, although it has good bones for making a decent rack, is not engineered to work right out of the box. The side rails are in two pieces that have a clamping means that is clearly sub par. I had to weld the side rails together on my rack to keep it from being wobbly. The paint/powdercoat was falling off on one of the side rails, also.

If you have the means, after welding and painting, this rack makes a very nice unit. But don't expect it to work right out of the box, it does take either welding or bolting the side rail pieces together to make it sturdy enough to carry the rated 800 pounds."
