"These solar panels are installed on the cab roof of Miami Beach Fire Departments Reserve Rescue Vehicles. These vehicles sit unused for long periods of time in the parking lot because they are Reserve Units, this caused the batteries of the vehicles to run low on charge. These Reserve units are placed in service when one of the Front line units needs maintenace or repairs done. Therefore in multiple ocasions when the vehicle was needed to be placed in service we will find them with dead batteries. Since the installation of these solar panels on the reserve vehicles we have not had an incident were we need to jump start a reserve vehicle that has been parked for a long period of time. Thanks again for this great product."

Excellent product and price,

"I purchased two of these solar panels along with the charge controller and 1000 watt Inverter also sold by Northern.
The panels are connected through the charge controller to one deep cycle 100AH battery in my boat house. The system was easy to wire and well made. The panels are very well packaged and of very good quality. The wattage rating appears to be actually slightly more than advertised. The system is a very good substitute to having commercial power extended to the boat house and is much cheaper to install.. I use the system to provide 120 VAC power for occasional use of power tools like drills, a blender and a radio.
Future plans include the installation of LED lighting and switches to provide low level lighting of the dock and boathouse for evening cruises or gatherings."

Back woods bonus,

"We are in the process of building a cabin on 35 acres in Northwest Colorado. Our site is and will always be "off grid". I have purchased (5 )of the 15 watt solar panels from Northern Tool to charge my deep cycle batteries. I will keep adding the panels as needed for 12 volt pumps, lighting, inverter, etc.
The panels were simple to install and wire together for expansion. Northern Tool has packaged the product well as to not have any damage. I would recommend these panels to anyone who is serious about living off grid with a limited budget.

Excellent Solar Product,

"I keep two of these on my travel trailer and they keep my deep cycle batteries fresh for use. I don't have much use for a generator anymore so camping is now quiet! Mine hook up to two deep cycle batteries that power all the 12V lighting, fans, and pumps. I have a small converter that powers up a TV. Before these panels I was always worried about the power consuption at night and then having to run a generator to recharge the batteries during the day. Now this is all a silent, automatic process. You could use these to keep lights in a shed, your mower's batteries charged, etc. I use power controllers to maximize the way they charge the batteries."

Solar hunting cabin,
November 8, 2009
By MississippiHunter
from Madison, MS
"I recently built a 600 sq.ft. hunting cabin that is about 1000 feet from the power line, so running power was way too expensive. So, i looked into installing solar power in the cabin. I purchased two of these panels along with a charge controller. I charge two deep cycle batteries, that power a 19"television, a 12v ceiling fan, 3 outside spotlights, and a couple of indoor lights. I used the cabin on weekends and have never had any shortage of power. The panels were extremely simple to install and charge very well. The voltage regulator rarely drops below 11 volts in the batteries.
If you are looking for a simple, efficient alternative to running a power line, buy these panels."

Great Product,

"I bought two of these to keep my RV battery topped off. They arrived with a LOT of packaging, like triple boxed with extra padding to keep the panels from getting damaged. It worked because they arrived safely. The panels worked very nicely with the 7 Amp charge controller also from Northern Tool. Really you should have a regulator like the charge controller if you are charging 12 V batteries because the open circuit voltage coming out of the panel is around 22 Volts. I combined both panels with the cables and wire nuts provided (there were several types of cables included) and mounted the controller in the RV battery box. I merely set the panels on top of the camper, but one could screw them down using the flanges on the panels. Probably a rubber grommet with each screw location and/or a pad under the whole panel would be smart to reduce mechanical shock. The idea of permanently mounting them made me a bit nervous as they are glass and plastic after all, so I did not do this. The panels seemed to put out decent current even with overcast conditions. I think one needs to understand the reality of charging a large battery with solar panels. Say you have a 100 Amp Hour battery. The panels only put out around an amp each, so best case it would take 50 hours of sunshine to fully charge the battery from an exhausted state. I did not try this, so there may be something I'm missing, but the bottom line is you're not going to charge a big lead acid battery in one day. Also, two panels in full sun put out around 25 to 30 Watts. This isn't enough to run a laptop with an inverter either, unless you have a battery to store the charge. So make sure you understand what to expect. All in all, these are good and rugged looking panels that work as advertised."

Inexpensive Solar Panel,
October 20, 2009
By SKelley

"These 15 watt solar panels are great for an emergency backup or camping or some power at home. They are rated at 15 watts 1 amp in full sunlight and are built very well. I have seven of these panels wired in parallel giving me 105 watts of power which I use to power my living room. I run two lights, laptop, and a 36 inch tv for about 8 hours a day. These panels charge my batteries up every day and have been doing so for about a year I would recommend these panels to anyone for a starter system but keep in mind that if you want to run larger items such as a refrigerator think of purchasing larger 24 or 48 volt systems. These panels were designed for camping or to have a little emergency power and to keep your car or truck battery charged and they will put out what they are rated, great little panel."

good but not great,
September 10, 2009

"I have been purchasing these panels in lots of 2 for nearly 3 years now. I presently have 18 panels.
Even when new they produce only 10 watts each in full noon day sun when positioned for optomal gain. As they age they tend to move more to 7 watts from the 10 or so when new.
This would seem to be normal for a Amorfic type panel aging which tends to stabilize after a year. They do work better in the fall ,winter, spring when tempratures are colder.
I have had 4 panels fail during operation. In each case the panel was dissassembled (it is put together with screws and dissassembles easily) and the problem was where the small gage copper wire attached to the actual glass collector. It is a tiny solder tab that is under a sealent. My suspission is the expansion rate of the sealant is different than the wire and during the heating of the day streaches and eventually makes this solder connection fail by breaking the tiny tab that comes from the panel.
To fix this requires the glass to be ground back for about a quarter inch to get to the existing tab. This is reasionably easy to do with a moto tool and diamond tip cutter.
All units that have failed have been repaired. This seems to be a design flaw and may continue. When I repair each unit I add a loop for the expansion/contraction that should stop future problems.
These cells work well even in low light and i will continue to order them as even at the reduced output they are still competitive with other options and can be orded incrimentally (meaning when I have a little extra money I can add to my system)"
